How to use a manual rivet pulling gun correctly

Manual rivet pulling guns are staple handheld tools for metal fabrication, furniture assembly, auto repair, and everyday DIY projects

1.Fully open the handle of the rivet gun with both hands.

Start by gripping the rivet gun firmly with both hands and spreading the handles all the way open to their maximum range of motion. This fully extends the gun’s internal linkage mechanism, creating enough clearance to load the rivet properly. Never begin working with partially closed handles.

2. Insert the Rivet and Fit the Gun Head Tightly

Grab a standard blind rivet and slide its mandrel straight into the gun’s nozzle. Push the rivet in until the nozzle sits flush and tight against the rivet head. Double-check that the rivet is perfectly aligned with no gaps or tilting. A snug, secure fit between the gun nozzle and rivet is critical for steady force transfer during pulling, and it prevents slippage that causes failed riveting jobs.

3. Fix the Workpiece and Complete Riveting

Line up the rivet with the pre-drilled hole in your metal plate or workpiece, then press the gun nozzle tightly against the material surface to eliminate any gaps. Once positioned securely, squeeze the two handles inward slowly and firmly with both hands. Release the handles and repeat the squeezing motion several times in a row. The continuous pulling tension will eventually snap the rivet mandrel off, locking the rivet tightly in place to create a solid, permanent connection.

4. When the nail cylinder is filled with rivet rods, disassemble and clean them.

With repeated use, broken rivet mandrel scraps build up inside the gun’s collection chamber. When the chamber fills with debris, it can jam the internal mechanism, slow down tool response, and even cause operational failures. If you notice the collection chamber is full, stop working immediately. Disassemble the gun head and collection chamber following the tool’s structural design to prepare for cleaning.

5. After cleaning, install it again.

Once disassembled, clear out all leftover mandrel pieces, metal dust, and debris from the nozzle and collection chamber. Take a moment to inspect the internal moving parts for wear, sticking, or damage. After confirming all components are clean and functional, reassemble the tool piece by piece in the original order. Proper cleaning and reassembly restore full tool performance, prevent jams, and greatly extend the service life of your manual rivet gun.

Whether for industrial assembly work or daily DIY repairs, these standard practices keep your manual rivet gun functional, efficient, and long-lasting.
